David Jaffe is knocking some sense into hardcore fanboys.
If you haven’t checked out the YouTube channel of David Jaffe, it might be fun show to check out. He’s an ex developer of some great games like: Twisted Metal, God of War, and Calling All Cars. Jaffe made big strides with the PlayStation brand, so you would think he’s all about Sony, but you’d wrong. He’s a gamer first and is happy to have cheer lead to his viewers, who are mainly hardcore enthusiast, about other brands like Xbox and Apple.
The show has Jaffe having open discussions with his viewers who call in via Discord and they have open discussions about gaming and geek culture. The viewers are usually the hardcore enthusiast and he’s happy to knock some sense into the community. He pulls no punches with his s listeners and callers. Real talk, as they say. If anyone can tell the truth, why not the person who created some of the best games in the industry? Tell it to them straight.
He recently had did an interview with the person who is leading the petition to “Remove Jim Ryan as CEO of PlayStation.” The interviewer named through his alias “Rogue” plead his case on why he wants Jim Ryan removed and of course Jaffe called him out on all his points. Currently as I write this the petition is under 1k in votes. This is obviously not going to make any effect on Jim Ryan’s job. Rogue, a self proclaimed fan of Jaffe, was given a hard to swallow pill as Jaffe gave him a great line saying “The hard truth for you is Sony might not be the company for you... As mediums get bigger, bigger and bigger. They have no choice if they want to sustain themselves to be further away from fans that got them there.” This is coming from a the guy who made a staple through the PlayStation itself. That hardcore fan base should listen that have a hard time separating feelings from reality.
Having an open discussion is what Jaffe is doing. And he’s having it the ‘die hards’ on the landscape. The ones on social media who live and champion their brand. The lions den. He express no loyalty any brand and promotes what is good in the industry regardless. To listeners, he tries to break into fanboys and tell it to them straight. A real gamer knows the what’s good and David Jaffe is keeping it real.
